A Believer’s Next Step

The choice to be baptised is a significant spiritual turning point for a believer in Jesus Christ.  When a follower of Jesus makes a decision to be baptised, they are deciding to publicly declare their faith by being fully immersed in water. This is a symbolic act that identifies with Jesus in His death, burial and resurrection.

For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.” – Romans 6:4

What is Water Baptism?

The word ‘baptism’ comes from the Greek word baptiso, which means to fully immerse or plunge under. Therefore, baptism should be done by total immersion in water. Water baptism can be conducted at the beach in  river, pool or in any body of water.

Baptisms at Bright, usually occur during a Sunday service. Generally two church leaders (Pastors or Ministry Leaders) will lower you into the water after praying over you. After you’ve been totally submerged, they will lift you out again and continue to pray for you.

Should I be baptised?

Are you a believer who follows Jesus?
As believers who call Jesus their Lord and Saviour, we believe we should follow the example Jesus himself set for us as in Mark 1:9 “At that time Jesus…was baptized by John in the Jordan.” Jesus also says in Mark 16:15-16 “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

I have been Christened, do I still need to be baptised?
Yes, anyone who has been christened (sprinkling/pouring of water) should be baptised by full immersion in water, regardless of how long you have been a Christian.

Am I old enough to be baptised?
There is no age criteria, however the believer must be able to make an informed decision about committing their life to Jesus and accepting Him personally as their Saviour.
